Recommendations / learning

Given the scale of destruction, humanitarian aid will provide a small part of the financing for reconstruction efforts - identifying where humanitarian actors can add the most value to domestic efforts will be critical in the next phases.

Mental health support for people affected by the crisis, including many first responders who have been personally affected, should be prioritised.

Provision of safe shelter is necessary across the region as well as comprehensive verification of the structural integrity of remaining infrastructure - protection needs are critical following an earthquake and there is concern about the significant number of unaccompanied minors.
